Activity Guide

While there are a number of opportunities for organized activities, being more physically active can be as simple as taking a walk around the block after dinner, dancing to favorite songs in your living room, digging in your backyard garden, or substituting walking or biking on a few trips a week.  We encourage you to experiment and find ways to add movement to your life!

Get More Active!

It's never too early to start your child on the path to healthy, active living. Your toddler might enjoy tumbling, riding a tricycle, dancing or taking a trip to your Neighborhood Park or playground.  Other appropriate activities for this age group include finger painting, sandbox play, hide and seek or building with blocks. Join in the fun alongside your children; modeling healthy behaviors is one of the best ways to instill life-long habits and you'll reap the same health and wellness benefits as your children.

Organized sports are one of many ways for older children to be both physically active and to learn to be part of a team. Encourage your child to play outside or sign up for a class in dance, swim or martial arts; many classes offer scholarships or sliding scale fees.

Growing Children should have at least one hour of physical activity on most days. More is better! Activity can be broken up into several shorter sessions.
