Laurie Trieger, Executive Director

 
Laurie has lived in Oregon since 1984. She has work and volunteer experience in a variety of non-profit and social service organizations focusing on poverty reduction, child wellness and healthy communities; this includes work at a women’s health center, four years as co-chair of the Whitaker Community Council, and foster parenting. From 2000-2007 she worked for FOOD for Lane County (FFLC) the second largest food bank in Oregon, where she coordinated a countywide Gleaning Program involving over 1,000 low-income people in partnership with 40+ farmers and backyard growers to harvest surplus food. As Advocacy & Outreach Coordinator at FFLC, she collaborated with anti-hunger advocates locally and across Oregon, and actively engaged in community organizing and public policy work focused on hunger and poverty issues. Laurie currently serves on the Programs and Services Committee of FFLC’s Board; the Springfield Farmer's Market Advisory Committee; the Eugene Safe Routes to School Team; and coordinates cafe and food services for Project Homeless Connect. She was recently selected to serve on the Oregon Health Improvement Planning Commission. Send an email to Laurie

 

 

Larisa Varela, Resource Development and Communications Coordintator

Larisa graduated from the University of Oregon, Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management, where she studied both Nonprofit Management and Community and Regional Planning.  She was first introduced to the obesity epidemic as a member of the Healthy Savannah Initiative in Georgia.

Kayla Schott-Bresler, Manager, Policy & Advocacy Initiatives
Kayla Schott-Bresler 
Kayla graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles with a B.A. in History and Diplomacy and World Affairs. She studied abroad in Bolivia and Mexico and is conversant in Spanish. Kayla has been a field organizer for political campaigns, worked on youth outreach and policy assessment at ACLU of Oregon’s Eugene office and interned with an affordable housing organization in Portland. She serves on the ACLU of Oregon’s Lane County Chapter Board and Youth Outreach Team. An avid swimmer with a lifelong interest in health and wellness, Kayla loves to cook and spends as much free time as possible with friends and family. Send an email to Kayla  

Brent Vaughan, Research Assistant 


Brent graduated from the University of Oregon Clark Honors College with a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish. He studied abroad at the Catholic University in Quito, Ecuador and completed and IE3 internship with a social service agency in Santiago, Chile. Brent was involved with the U of O Campus Recycling program throughout his attendance at the University. Actively involved with the Oregon Social Learning Center, Brent has assisted in a research project with Latinos in Oregon and works as a mentor to at-risk teenage boys. In his free time Brent enjoys playing and watching sports, hiking, camping and cooking.
